10 Dec 2022 by RubenlDickson

Your students need to be aware of the factors that impact the decision-making process to make good decisions. Things like behavior style, courage and personal values all affect the way that decision-making is made. Here are some of the factors that affect decision making that you can instruct your students:

Behavior Style

Decision-making tendencies are affected by how people behave. If you have the resources and time, it is possible to follow the 8-step process. People with certain personality traits like people who are stressed tend to follow their emotions or feelings when making decisions. Some people are prone to making an immediate decision because they tend to rely on their first impulse or impression of the circumstances. A decision made impulsively can lead to very poor choices. However there are people who take their decisions slowly and take longer than the time needed to make a decision. It’s probably a good idea to make a decision, however, it’s not the most efficient method to take. Following the process even under pressure will allow you to prevent a poor decision.

Authority Figures

Every decision is not ours. It is essential to know who and when authority should be delegated to make a decision. You must ensure that the person who you are able to trust to make the final decision is competent prior to delegating the authority.

Courage

Good decision-making requires courage or bravery. It takes courage and confidence to act upon decisions. You must believe that you’re doing the right thing before you are able to convince others to agree with your choice. Understanding the decision-making process can help you gain the confidence and courage to take action on your decisions and to inspire others to take action to implement them.

There is too much information

More detail does not always translate into better decision. In fact, having too many details could be something else and impede the decision-making process. In the age of all the data available to us today via the web, we do not always use our creative thought methods in the way we should. This can lead to decisions that are based on reality rather than using innovative and creative ways of looking at things. It is possible to believe that more data will lead to more informed decisions. This isn’t the case. The best decision makers are the ones who do not rely only on facts; rather, they use their creativity to come up with the most effective solution.

Your personal values

Once you know the things you value most, you can more easily understand how you behave. Understanding that beliefs determine the way you think, feel and influence your behavior, and your attitude creates your attitudes is essential. Your values system is essential for decision making. Your values will have more influence in your decisions. To gain a better understanding of your values, take part in the following test.
